It's Tetris. It's Nintendo. That's a classic combo,so you know this is going to be good.
Nintendo has put a few new game modes on this one, and while they serve as an interesting distraction, all Tetris ever needs to be is the classic game. In fact, that's the one reason why I'm only giving this a 9 out of 10. Minus one point Ninendo for not giving us "classic" Tetris! Why is it not classic Tetris? That "hold" spot and the ability to see the next six pieces is why. Those are great in and of themselves and they do add something to the game, but they should be options, with the ability to turn them on or off.
Don't worry, Nintendo makes up for it with its local WLAN and online play. Local WLAN let you play with up to 10 people. And online play, well forget about it! Playing with strangers (and friends) on a 5 minutes grudge match is what it's all about. Fast and furious, and then it's over. The perfect handheld experience I'd say.
